This house is as close to my heart as one can get. Built in 1948, it was originally purchased by Jen's great-grandmother in the late 1960s and inherited by her mother and father, who raised her in this home during her early years. The house underwent renovations for several years before Jen and her family moved from Brooklyn back to Miami.
This design project began with the purchase of a desk and a shared love for Paavo Tynell. It then grew into a complete home renovation for a couple and their two children. We wanted to update the heavy-handed interiors and give it a fresh perspective with color and pattern. We focused on brightening up the palette and introducing darker colors strategically to create more dramatic spaces within the larger and brighter home. We completely opened up the kitchen and sourced an antique draper’s table for the island. The backsplash tile pattern was designed and hand drawn by our studio. We added special light fixtures throughout to add visual interest to the ceilings.
One of our very first, and largest projects, this home was pure joy to design. The collaboration with the client, who is a brilliant, stylish and very opinionated woman, blossomed into a great working relationship and friendship that we’ve continued over the years. This client was very involved in every design decision we made, and it was a true collaboration — even down to the selection of grout colors. It was a great learning experience for us as well, as we blended a love of pattern and color with this modern farmhouse architecture.
An opportunity to work with repeat clients, this beachfront writer’s retreat began as a furnishing/decorating exercise at a small cottage several years ago. After a few uninsulated winters, the couple and their two young kids embarked on the design of a ground-up home on the property. The goal of this project was to create a warm, comfortable living space that is fresh, clean and practical for a family with two children, eclectic elements, natural materials and handmade/vintage pieces mixed in.
When you and your childhood friend imagine your dream houses of the future, it’s hard to resist actually being able to design it for them. So was the case with this new ground-up build in the semi-secret celebrity residential enclave of Ponce Davis in Miami. Architect David Wearne Johnson, who specializes in the Old Florida style, laid an idyllic frame in which to create a warm, vibrant, livable and thoughtful interior scheme to fit the needs of their six-person, very social, family. We set certain zones for living — so that everyone has his/her own space but also plenty of space to gather together comfortably. The handmade elements throughout the house serve to add texture without overwhelming the palette.
We were brought on to create the interiors for the owners’ new home in Weston, CT after the family of four (plus two goats) decided to leave their Tribeca home in favor of a historic farmhouse outside the city. Built in 1790 with a series of additions over the years, we worked to recreate and reconnect the original assemblage of homes on the property. Connecting them, we inserted shiplap on walls and windows to create the sensation of a bridge linking the two houses. We worked with a combination of local brands, vintage pieces, and collectible design items to furnish the space to appeal to the owner’s relationship to the historic home and location as well as their discerning design palate.
